Collection: Homespun

This collection showcases our range of homespun, hand dyed clothing and art.

For my homespun pieces, each garment begins on the whenua. The wool is gathered through a network of family, friends and local farmers connected to the wāhine I work with in Te Māhia. Once enough fleece has been collected, it’s taken to be carded, then returned and shared across the group.

From there, the fleece is spun into yarn, a process that can take up to 40 hours for a single 4-ply, often spread over weeks. We decide together how the yarn will be used, whether for weaving or knitting, before it comes back to me for the next stage.

I then begin knitting, weaving or dyeing. Much of the dyeing is done using natural materials, harakeke, pōhutukawa fallen from the ground, kawakawa, onion skins, avocado, as well as indigo sourced through fibre artists in Kohukohu. The process takes time, allowing for mordanting, dye baths and drying.

A single garment can take around 20 hours to complete. Each piece carries that full journey within it, shaped by many hands and a shared way of working.
